AMD SAFETY CASE EVALUATION

The Nulka decoy is a joint Australian/US project being developed to counter anti-ship missiles. The rocket-powered decoy is launched from its host ship and lures incoming missiles away from the ship. The Active Missile Decoy (AMD) system is the Royal Australian Navy's system for launching the decoys.

From 1996-2001, the Software Verification Research Centre (SVRC) was contracted by the RAN as independent safety evaluators of various aspects of the AMD system. Evaluation activities included:

The Decoy FCU safety case is the most thorough and complete application of Australian defence safety standard Def(Aust) 5679 to date.
