BrainWave is the product of a great deal of effort at the University of Queensland. If you try the demo version and decide to use it, you must register it. Registering upgrades your demonstration copy to a licensed version and stops it from expiring.
To download BrainWave, first read the following evaluation license agreement and then click on the links corresponding to your platform (e.g. Unix, PC or Macintosh). Your browser will ask you where to save the file.
1. If you download the software, you indicate your acceptance of the terms set out below.
2. UQ grants a non exclusive licence to you, to use one copy of the software product (software) which you download on a single stand alone computer for a period of two weeks, for the purpose of evaluating the software. UQ warrants to you that it is entitled to grant this licence to you.
3. You may install the software on a hard disk on a single stand alone computer. You must not install it upon a network server. You must not permit any access to the software via any communications method.
4. You must not install the software on any other computer, unless you first delete the software from the computer in which it was previously installed. To do so is a breach of copyright, and a breach of this agreement.
5. The software is licensed to you. It is not sold to you.
6. You may copy the software for backup purposes only.
7. You must not use, copy, modify or transfer the software, otherwise than as specifically permitted by this Agreement.
8. You must not make copies of the software for third parties, nor permit others to do so.
9. The software, including text, music, images and audio incorporated in the software is protected by copyright laws and international treaties.
10. You must not rent lease or hire out the software.
11. You may provide the software to another person, but only if it is done on a permanent basis, you do not retain any copies of the software, and the recipient agrees to these terms and conditions.
12. You must not decompile or disassemble the software.
13. You may terminate this licence at any time by returning the software to UQ. In that case, you must delete all backup copies of the software.
14. If you breach any of the terms of this licence, UQ may terminate this licence. If UQ terminates this licence, you must return to UQ all copies of the software, and delete all copies of the software from any hard disk.
15. As this license is limited to evaluation purposes only, this license terminates two weeks from the date that you download the software.
16. To the extent permitted by law, UQ makes no warranties in relation to the software whether as to merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, or suitability.
17. All implied conditions, warranties and representations whether arising under statute or by implication of law, custom or usage with respect to the software, to the full extent permitted by law shall not apply.
18. UQ shall in no event be liable for any damage suffered as a result of the use of the software under this licence, whether direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequential howsoever arising whether under statute or from the negligence of UQ or by breach of contract by UQ or from an act or omission by UQ or otherwise.
19. This licence will be governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia.
For Unix systems: http://psy.uq.edu.au/~brainwav/BrainWave1.1.tar.gz or
http://psy.uq.edu.au/~brainwav/BrainWave1.1.tar.Z
Use "gzip -d BrainWave1.1.tar.gz" or "uncompress BrainWave1.1.tar.Z" to uncompress the file and "tar -xf BrainWave1.1.tar" to extract the files.
For Windows95 systems: http://psy.uq.edu.au/~brainwav/BrainWave1.1.EXE
This is a self extracting archive. Execute it to extract the files.
For Macintosh Systems: http://psy.uq.edu.au/~brainwav/BrainWave1.1.sea.hqx
This is a self extracting archive so you just need to click above to uncompress and extract the files (if you are using Netscape).
Once you have extracted the files use the "Open File" or "Open File in Browser" option in the File menu to open BrainWave.html.
Note: There seems to be a bug with the Internet Explorer 3.0 Just In Time (JIT) compiler. If you go to the View menu and select Options, and then click on the Advanced tab, you will see a check box with Enable Java JIT compiler next to it. Make sure this is unselected. Then you must close Internet Explorer and start it again. Now all should be well.
Because of security restrictions imposed by browsers you may not be able to save networks if you run BrainWave through a browser (both Netscape and Microsoft are working to avoid these restrictions in the current versions of their browsers). If this is important, you can download the Java Runtime Environment for Windows 95 (version 1.1.2 at last edit) from Sun at http://java.sun.com. This is the best implementation of the Java platform that we have seen so far. The Sun site also provides appletviewers for non-Windows95 platforms that you can download as part of the Java Development Kit. For Macintosh users the best appletviewer we have seen is provided by Apple at http://applejava.apple.com. Be sure to get version 1.0.2 as version 1.5 has some serious bugs. If you want to use some of the larger networks, the Apple appletviewer can be problematic. In this case, we recommend getting the 1.0.2 version of the appletviewer from Sun http://java.sun.com. Be sure to get the MacOS version. We also provide a brief description of how to allow reading and writing under this version.
Thanks for using BrainWave and please don't hesitate to use the Bug Report form or to email us at brainwav@psy.uq.edu.au.
