SUBSAFE & Safety Engineering Role

We're a modern organisation offering some of the most interesting challenges in Australia today. Having recently completed our Collins Class submarine construction contract, we're focusing on life support for the class over the next 30 years. To this end, we seek ambitious people to join our talented team.

Collins Class submarines are the largest and most advanced conventionally powered submarines in the world. Having demonstrated their tactical advantages and performance against the most sophisticated US nuclear submarines in recent US-Australian military exercises, design enhancements continue with state-of-the-art technology as part of the ongoing capability improvement program.

SUBSAFE and Safety Engineering is a new department introduced to increase the focus on SUBSAFE and safety in Design & Engineering (D&E). It enhances a culture of safety by coordinating hazard risk management and safety case evaluations.

The department is represented on our Safety Management Group and coordinates all design safety issues between ASC, D&E and the CoA. It works closely with ASC's Safety and Certification Group (SEC).

The department leads on designer certification activities associated with maintenance and materiel certification. The Systems Engineering Section oversees the implementation of Navy technical regulatory requirements and ensures compliance with Navy engineering policy. It is responsible for maintaining the ASC-Engineering Management Plan and overseeing the development of D&E work processes. The section will define and manage the certification basis for the COLLINS Class Submarines.

This department has a Quality Engineering function, responsible for internal process and triggered audits and the coordination of quality engineering within the Group.

Reporting to the GM - D&E and working closely with our Safety and Certification Group, you'll manage departmental budgets, projects and resources, support safety and QA programs and develop and maintain audit programs.

You'll also develop and implement design certification processes, represent D&E on ASC’s Safety Management Group and coordinate design safety issues between ASC D&E and the CoA.

You're a Chartered Engineer (CPE) with extensive engineering experience in a defence design environment, including quality processes and safety engineering. You have effective communication, leadership and personnel management skills and eligibility for Defence security clearance to Secret level.

Applicants must hold Australian Citizenship and be eligible for Department of Defence Security Clearance.
